Office and Home Networks

Networking (the connecting of two or more computers together to work cooperatively) is easy to do and can greatly expand the use of the PCs that you already have. You could:

• Share all the data on each PC with all the others on the network
• Share a printer - you only need one printer for your home or office
• Share your Internet connection - have only one modem or connection for all of your PCs
• Enable cooperative software that allows more than one PC user to collaborate on memos or spreadsheets
• Maintain and backup all your PCs from one central site

Networking your home or office is now easy and inexpensive. All the software you need to network and share Internet connections is now built right into the latest versions of Windows. The cost of hardware has dropped to the point where it will cost far less per PC to network them than to buy a modem for each PC.

If you do not wish to add Ethernet wiring, there are now some other options such as using your existing phone lines. This new method of networking, called HPNA, make be of particular interest in home networking.
